Personality & Behavior
Sonia was rescued in July 2023 after her owner left and abandoned the dogs in his care. Thankfully, the neighbours noticed what was happening and reached out for help. Because of them, we were able to rescue Sonia along with her five puppies and two other adult males (Poppy)
Sadly, her puppies became very ill with Parvo, and four of them did not survive. It was a very difficult start to her new life, but Sonia showed how strong and devoted she is as a mother.
Since arriving at the shelter, Sonia has been slowly learning to trust again. She is still a little shy and may bark when she feels unsure, but this is simply her way of protecting herself while she figures things out. The good news is that she is making progress, she is walking quite well on the leash and becoming more comfortable with people over time.
Adoption Requirements
Home type : Sonia would do best in a calm and patient home where she can continue building confidence
A family or individual willing to give her time to feel safe and settle in
A quieter environment rather than a very busy household
Experience : A patient, gentle owner who understands her submissive, reserved personality and can give her the time she needs to build trust.
Other pets/kids : Possibly with another calm dog who could help her feel more secure, because she is still learning to trust, Sonia would likely do best with older, gentle children or in an adult home.
