Personality & Behavior
For years, Joca’s life was limited to the end of a chain. He lived outdoors with very little shelter from the rain, wind, and cold. His owner, an elderly lady in Algoz, believed he was “fine,” but Joca was often underfed and never received proper veterinary care.
Joca never saw a vet, never had vaccines, and his condition slowly worsened. His fur became badly knotted and dirty, ticks and fleas covered him, and one of his ears was partially damaged from years of neglect. Living exposed to the weather for so long has also left him with severe arthritis, making it difficult for him to walk comfortably.
For many months, a caring school teacher who passed by regularly and brought him food asked us to help him. Sadly, like many shelters, we had no space and Joca had to wait. Finally, a small area became available in our quarantine section, and we were able to bring him in as quickly as possible.
Now Joca is safe. He has had a warm bath and a full veterinary check-up, things he should have had all his life. But what he truly deserves is something even more important: kindness, comfort, and love.
Joca is a very sweet older dog, around 14 years old, who has endured a very hard life without the care every dog deserves. Despite everything, he is gentle and grateful.
